The Broken Bowl – Actor-Teachers
We are seeking two Actor-Teachers for a touring production of Edward Bond’s ‘The Broken Bowl’.
We are offering a fixed-term contract, lasting 24 weeks, running from Monday 16th November 2026 to Friday 30th April 2027.
£28,725.32 pro rata (£13,257.84 for this contract).
Big Brum is seeking to appoint two actors to join our current team and to take part in our upcoming Theatre in Education tour of Edward Bond’s ‘The Broken Bowl’.
Big Brum’s tour of ‘The Broken Bowl’celebrates the unique collaboration of over 20 years between the Company and the playwright, which resulted in this and nine other new plays for young people, “a body of work, written mostly for young people, that stand alongside his classic plays, such as Lear and Saved” (Lyn Gardner, The Guardian).
Big Brum is an internationally renowned Theatre in Education Company that takes high quality theatre and drama to young people in areas of high deprivation. Edward Bond said, “Big Brum reminds me why I first became a dramatist – and shows its audiences why drama matters … Big Brum is magnificent.”
This is a full-time post for 24 weeks, Monday 16th November 2026 to Friday 30th April 2027, with a possible contract extension to the end of May 2027. Holiday pay is included.
The successful candidate will be required to pass an Enhanced DBS check and complete on-line training modules on Safeguarding and Health & Safety.
Standard week is 37 hours, with rehearsal hours between 9.00am and 5.00pm.
Professional experience of acting, touring and working with young people is highly desirable.

Now Closed - Actor/Teacher
We are seeking an Actor/Teacher for a touring production of ‘The Little Red Cap’.
This tour is part of our Schools of Recovery, Communities of Recovery and Artists for Recovery programme of work funded by Arts Council England.
We are offering a fixed-term contract, lasting 30 weeks, running from 28th April 2025 to 21st November 2025.
£28,600 pro rata (£16,500 for this contract).
Big Brum is seeking to appoint a Midlands based Actor/Teacher to join our current team and take part in our upcoming Theatre in Education tour based on ‘Red Riding Hood’. This new and ambitious tour aims to reach all the young people between 5-11 in North Solihull schools. The team will take part in developing two age-related versions of this famous story so as to engage young minds and bodies in making meaning of the story in their lives. We are looking for individuals who are interested in developing their understanding of theatre and drama for young people in primary school settings.

A teacher from Windy Arbor Primary School said of our last Primary tour ’Hansel and Gretel’ that ‘It was a truly engaging and memorable experience.’
