Engaging, Exploring, Expressing

The case for Theatre In Education

This three-year evaluation and research project – funded by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation – saw external independent evaluation of Big Brum’s impact and efficacy through Theatre in Education programmes. Using this and data analysis of the work produced by the young people we have had the pleasure of working with, we put together ‘The Case for Theatre in Education’.

The project produced three reports: the first, a summative document for the entire project, the second, a report from evaluators People & Organisation, examining Big Brum’s work’s impact upon children, and the third, an evaluative case study of the ‘Flee’ Theatre in Education programme, written by Dr Chris Bolton at Birmingham City University.

Findings endorsed how TiE engages young people imaginatively, emotionally, intellectually and physically, including many young people who are otherwise disengaged or disaffected.
