Giant’s Embrace

The fairy-tale film for primary education

‘Giant’s Embrace’ was originally devised by the Big Brum as a fairy-tale based story for early years at primary schools, asking children for help to finish a story that explores the relationship between a young boy and a greedy giant.

In the story, our eponymous giant eats too much while the local children go hungry, symbolising themes of power and how it feeds into greed and tyranny. Our young people can learn much from the fairy-tale and the interactivity supports in thinking and learning at primary level.

The play previously toured in primary schools and theatres several times between 2006 to 2014, then in 2020 Big Brum recreated an educational film that encompasses the storytelling and new artwork.

Now, ‘Giant’s Embrace’ is an engaging digital experience for lower years at primary schools. The two-part story comes with teachers’ resources provided to aid in teaching and learning, and the film is available for a small fee.
